When the Duke Blue Devils and the Butler Bulldogs square off tonight in the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball title game, they will not only be playing the biggest game of their young lives, but they will also be giving die-hard Kobe and LeBron fans a little added incentive to root for either team.
Many of the Blue Devils will be decked out in the Nike Zoom Kobe V ‘Duke’ PE and the Bulldogs will be wearing either the Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III (Black/Metallic Silver) or the Nike Air Max LeBron VII (Black). Both teams will be battling until the bitter end during the championship game wearing the kicks of the world’s current two best players. Whether or not we will see that actual matchup first hand in this year’s NBA Finals is a whole different story, but for now, this is just a great bonus to an already huge game.
Duke will be led by senior guard Jon Scheyer and juniors Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith. Underdog Butler will perhaps have to lean the most that they have all season on sophomore standout Gordon Hayward as junior Matt Howard and sophomore Shelvin Mack are questionable with injuries sustained against Michigan State. While Duke is heavily favored due to their interior presence anchored by senior center Brian Zoubek, this year’s NCAA Tournament has given us all reason to never doubt any team’s ability to grind out a gutty victory against all odds.
While Duke’s coach Mike Krzyzewski will be gunning for his fourth NCAA title, Brad Stevens of Butler will be the youngest head coach ever to play for a national championship at 33 years of age. This matchup is truly the ever so cliché’ David vs. Goliath type of game with both programs and coaches being at opposite ends of the spectrum, historically.
The title game may not exactly be everyone’s desired Kobe vs. LeBron duel in its pure form, Duke and Butler will without a doubt, show the world what it’s like to play with the heart of a champion. Don’t miss out!
