One of the most highly anticipated, if not the absolute most anticipated sneaker releases of 2009 was the Air Jordan XI Retro ‘Space Jam’. I’ve even heard of stories of some buyers getting mugged in the parking lot after they had waited dreadful long hours to cop themselves a pair of those kicks. To commemorate 25 years of steady dominance in the world of high performance basketball shoes, Jordan Brand will now be releasing the Air Jordan XI Retro White ‘Silver Anniversary’ colorway on May 1, 2010.
Amongst devoted collectors, the Jordan XI’s are basically an all-time favorite. I remember way back in 1995 when these signature kicks hit the stores, so many people were sporting them as their daily shoes, which was more of the style back in the day. This all-white colorway comes with all the trimmings with a heavy patent leather, leather, and mesh nylon upper. The easy to use eyelets provide a convenient lacing system, which is a feature that only adds to this shoe’s seductive qualities. The shoe also has a full-length Air-Sole bag in the midsole, a full-length carbon fiber spring plate, and serving as the cherry on top is the icy clear rubber outsole that maintains the super clean appearance.
The rumblings around various forums about this colorway of the XI’s is that they are “too plain” and even “boring”. Also, if you notice, the Jumpman signature logo is absent from the lateral side of the heel, which many sneakerheads are not too pleased with. Still, it’s tough to imagine this all-white Retro not selling out upon its release. The shoe is after all, the ‘Silver Anniversary’ edition and will undoubtedly be highly prized in the future.
As I mentioned earlier, these kicks will be coming at us for its in-store release on May 1, 2010 at your local House of Hoops. Quantities will be limited so if you want to bear the lines and get yourself a pair, check vigorously with your HOH as things can change day to day and hour to hour. There are also very limited pairs being circulated already around the Internet if you want to go that route (see below). I will also post the in-store release price as soon as I find out so stay tuned! *Update: $150.00 retail.
