Release Alert (5/4/10): Nike Zoom Kobe V ‘Draft Day Hornets’

Nike Zoom Kobe V 'Draft Day Hornets'

We may have been watching Kobe Bryant build his legendary career with the Lakers, winning four championships in 14 years, but you must realize that players like him come once every era.  While it would be nice to think that he’s been a Laker from day one, we have to give the credit of punching his ticket into the NBA to the then, Charlotte Hornets.  That’s really the wonder of any professional sports draft.  There will always be a stream of “what if” as in, what if Kobe wasn’t traded by the Hornets for Vlade Divac?  Exactly.

Nike will soon be releasing the Zoom Kobe V in the ‘Draft Day Hornets’ colorway to pay tribute to another eventful moment of the Mamba’s career, which in this case, is his origin.  On the base white upper, we see that the teal trimmings have not been overused and kept mild, coloring only the outsole, Swoosh logo, heel counter, and a bit of the tongue.  The Swoosh border, Kobe’s Sheath logo, the inner lining, and the laces (dotted with teal) accent the shoe in purple.  We can only imagine whether or not the Mamba would be wearing this design every night in the city of New Orleans had he played out his career with the Hornets franchise.

Always a strange sight.

Then again, that’s probably why Nike made this colorway!

The ‘Draft Day Hornets’ edition of the Kobe V will be dropping at your local House of Hoops on May 4, 2010!  These do not seem to be limited release, but I would check with your HOH just to be sure.  I’ve seen every single colorway of the ZKB V line so far at various courts in LA and I’m sure these will catch my attention soon enough.
