You didn’t honestly think that Nike was going to let Kobe wear the same old colorways of his kicks in the most significant NBA Finals of his career did you?
That’s right, the Nike Zoom Kobe V *’Big Stage’ home colorway will debut tonight in Game 1 of Lakers vs. Celtics, round 12.
Appropriately to the occasion, this ostentatiously fresh colorway has a clean white base upper and as you can see, it’s all about the gold when it comes to Kobe and the Finals. Gold accents the white upper through the Swoosh logo, the ankle collar/heel counter, the external heel cap and the Mamba’s Sheath logo on the tip of the tongue. Of all the colorways we’ve seen thus far for the ZKB V, Nike definitely aced it by sticking with simplicity and elegance for this edition.
There is one very clutch detail that Nike implemented into the design though. If you look closely, a scrambled list of the Kobe’s benchmark achievements from the regular season are subtly camouflaged on the Flywire side panels. Such statistical references include: 2835 total minutes played, 25,970 total points scored by the end of the season, 365 season assist, 391 rebounds and the date, 02.01.10, which marks the day that the Mamba became the Lakers all-time leader in scoring (25,207 points to set the mark).
The *’Big Stage’ colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe V will be viewed around the world, but don’t be surprised if these are strictly reserved for the court because that’s basically what I’m assuming. Then again, it’s Nike, so I would also not be caught off guard if after the NBA Finals conclude, they release these for general purchase. Either way, I’m indescribably excited for this Lakers-Celtics series to begin and also to see what Kobe will be rocking on his feet at TD Garden on the road!
