True Colors Shining Through: Nike Dunk High AC ‘World Cup Pack’

Nike Dunk High AC 'USA'

Every four years, an event occurs that effortlessly unites the people of our world – the same world that otherwise, is still navigating its way to what is hopefully, a point of undisturbed peace.  That singular occurrence is the FIFA World Cup.

While we all root and cheer with unrelenting vigor for different countries and teams, the love and passion that erupts from the hearts of all those involved is what brings everyone under a common ground, albeit for one month.

The Federation Internationale de Football Association, FIFA, installed the tournament all the way back in 1930 and qualifying countries have been settling differences on the pitch ever since with the exception of 1942 and 1946, as World War II was in process.  Countries can make the cut via World Cup qualifiers that are systematically played during the preceding three years to each tournament.  The other way is to make it through an automatic bid as the host country, which is selected by FIFA’s Executive Committee following a vigorous system of petitioning, bidding and inspection as early as six years ahead.

As many of you may already be aware, the 2010 World Cup will be held in South Africa for the first time in the nation’s history, a monumental moment.  The 20th tournament champion will be crowned amongst the 32 competing countries.  The current reigning champion is Italy and every country will be gunning for their throne – a position that will likely not be relinquished quietly.

Nike, having very strong ties within the soccer universe, paid tribute to the tournament through one of their other departments, sportswear.  The Nike Dunk High AC ‘World Cup Pack’ features the kicks in a collection of copious colorways that pay tribute to the bevy of countries participating this year.  The upper, composed fully of canvas, rests tightly above a vulcanized midsole with an accent color border on the top and a tongue tab that connects colorway to country.
