February will be a special month here in the States as we will all be celebrating Black History Month. Today, we pay tribute to one of the most prominent and influential human beings in the history of our civilization, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It’s become a recent tradition of sorts for Nike and Kobe to pay homage to Dr. King and Black History Month ever since the Nike Zoom Kobe IV started a trend of dominance for the Mamba. Last year, we saw Kobe rocking a special tribute colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe V on MLK day.
This year, the Nike Zoom Kobe VI will feature a build that resembles the Kobe V ‘Big Stage’ from last season’s NBA Finals. Sporting a black a metallic gold upper, this special colorway is stacked with tributary elements with regards to Black History Month. What you probably notice first is the African sacrificial art graphics that are entrenched throughout the scaly upper. The letters “BHM” can’t be missed on the lateral side of the heel in green, gold and red, respectively. Roman numeral “XXXV”, commemorating 35 years of celebrating Black History Month are on display on the inner tongue and left insole. The left insole also features the words, “A call to greatness,” while the right insole says, “Overcome the odds. Make an impact on your sport. Change the world.”
Nike really upper their game this year for Black History Month with this edition of the Nike Zoom Kobe VI. Release information is still under wraps for now, but we will keep you informed as always . Most importantly though, keep an eye out for these kicks tonight when the Oklahoma City Thunder visit the Los Angeles Lakers in their first matchup of the season. We will also be taking a look at the Nike Zoom KD III ‘Black History Month’ during the week so look for those in tonight’s game as well!
