Even way before the 2008 Olympics run, Kobe Bryant had let it be known that he had tremendous respect for Duke University’s head basketball coach, Mike Krzyzewski. After all, the Mamba has been quoted as saying that had he chosen to play NCAA basketball instead of entering the NBA Draft in 1996, he would have been a Blue Devil. Last year, we saw the Nike Zoom Kobe V ‘Duke’ colorway shine all the way through to a national championship for the Dukies and we’ll see how far the Kobe VI version does in the big dance.
The updated edition of this specialty colorway retains much of the same visual schematics as its predecessor. The upper and inner lining are painted in varsity royal with clean white accents that hit the Swoosh, midsole and Sheath. Black contrasts are provided through the tongue and heel cap while the translucent royal blue outsole adds some juice to the overall build.
What’s most interesting about this ‘Duke’ colorway is that Kobe has actually worn it in a few games this season. He seldom, if ever, busts out school-specific editions while he’s at work.
The Nike Zoom Kobe VI ‘Duke’ is available now so if you’re a Blue Devil fan and want the perfect shoe that tastefully blends Duke’s colors and a great basketball sneaker, this colorway is for you.
