To all those analysts that doubted Cam Newton’s passing abilities at the NFL level, how do you like him now?  Under Armour’s decision to court him hard and sign him before anyone other than Nike really had a chance to even get a good pitch put together was a genius move in itself.  While the sports apparel giant has had superstars like Ray Lewis in their corner for years, few would argue that you can’t quite market any other position like you can a quarterback.

While Cam’s debut performance as a Carolina Panther is somewhat old news by now, the numbers he put up (24/37 – 422 YDS – 2 TDs – 1 INT – 1 RUSH TD) were astonishing, even for him.  Just to add some perspective, he broke Peyton Manning’s record for passing yards by a rookie in a first start.  Those who have supported Newton as a fan like I have, were fully aware of his talent and physical exploits heading into Week 1.  I mean, come on, he’s 6’5, 250 pounds, has a cannon for an arm and is also equipped with 4.5 40 yard dash speed.  Cam is pound for pound, the embodiment of physical perfection for an NFL QB.  However, all these elements are not what makes him so special.
