When you’re an athlete of LeBron’s caliber, you’ve got choices. You will be showered with recruiting letters and free this and that (school apparel mainly, among other things). Two-sport stars have an incredibly difficult decision to make come time to graduate from high school because for all intents and purposes, they will literally have to decide their future at the age of 17-18. For Bron, it was football or basketball.
Now, he obviously chose to go straight to the NBA and he would definitely not be in the same stratosphere of global stardom had he chose to play college football and then the NFL, but you’ve gotta wonder if he’s had second thoughts about making basketball his career. With his athleticism, his 6’8 250-260 pound frame doesn’t relegate him to playing tight end at all. He could pretty much line up anywhere on the field and be effective. As an all-state wide receiver at St. Vincent St. Mary’s, it is not as if top college football programs weren’t praying for his letter of intent.
A couple of years ago, State Farm and LeBron made his NFL fantasy into a reality…well, sort of. The commercial campaign was ingenious and a natural viral hit. If Bron had it his way though, he probably would have much rather had the team be the Dallas Cowboys instead of the Cleveland Browns, but either way, it was a pretty fun ad to watch.
