Michael Crabtree Fined $10,000 For Jordan Cleats

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree was fined $10,000 for uniform violations during Week 15’s game against the Pittsburg Steelers.  The fine stems from a pair of golden Jordan BCT Speed Low PE cleats, pictured below, that Crabtree sported during the 20-3 49ers victory.   Teammate Donte Whitner was also fined $5,000 for wearing long black socks during the same game.

Worth their weight in gold.

The NFL is notoriously strict about uniform violations, notably fining players for sporting patriotic cleats during games commemorating the September 11th attacks.  As the Jordan brand continues to push into the NFL, it appears they’re getting creative in terms of ways the garner publicity and attention.  One would think Crabtree isn’t too worried about the fine: as a Jordan athlete he is well compensated and it is almost certain Nike will pick up the bill.

Take the money and run.

Personally I think the NFL should pay me $10,000 for having to suffer through a month of pink cleats every year.  There are obviously bigger eyesores out there than well designed cleats that blend seamlessly with the 49ers color scheme.
