Jordan Retro Releases Are About To Get More Expensive (Update: Or Not)

Sneaker heads who are being pinched by the economy are going to feel like they’re not wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day.  That’s right, your already ludicrously expensive hobby just got a little more expensive.  Get angry.

Air Jordan Retro releases are getting another price hike.  The holiday release of the Air Jordan Retro IV “Black – Cement Grey – Fire Red” will retail for $180.00.  Contrast that to the Air Jordan Retro IV “Olympic”, dropping in July for $160.00.  That’s a 12.5% price hike, with no rationale.

Also getting a retail price increase is the Air Jordan Retro XI “Black – Varsity Red – White”, which will go for $200.00, making it the first Air Jordan Retro to reach the $200.00 mark.  Squeezing every dime out of the XI at least makes a little bit of sense, given the insanity that followed last years Retro XI “Concord” release, but I’m still not happy about it.  The Concord dropped for $180.00, so it would seem the $20.00 price raise is across the board for Retro releases.

One can only speculate how this will affect the resale market.  I’m guessing those fiends of eBay will simply raise their “Buy It Now” so the price hike doesn’t cut into their profit margins.  Nike wins.  Resellers win.  Consumers lose.  Awesome.

UPDATE:

Despite a major price leap being reported by several reputable outlets, Jordan Brand has denied any major pricing shifts for the Air Jordan Retro IV and XI this holiday season.

The Air Jordan Retro IV “Bred” will hold at its current retail price, $160.00.   The Air Jordan Retro XI “Bred” will only see a modest increase to $185.00 from $180.00.

Chock this one up as a victory for the masses!
