First Look – Nike Zoom KD V

While NBA Finals editions of Kevin Durant’s signature Nike Zoom KD IV have been in the spotlight this week, it has been a different story behind the scenes.

Kevin Durant has been working closely with Nike under-the-radar to create the next generation Zoom KD.  The KD IV was a complete sleeper hit in the wake of the KD III’s leukwarm reception, with a cornecopia of uber-hyper colorways, including Nerf and Year of the Dragon editions.  With Durant leading Oklahoma City to the Finals and securing his third scoring title, his brand awareness couldn’t be higher, and as such his signature shoe looks to be getting a lift from its current status as the bargain alternative to offerings from the Kobe and LeBron lines.

Big changes are coming for the KD.  The Zoom KD V continues the series trend of removing the lock-down strap every other year.  Other features of note include an Air Max bag in the heel (a first for the series), a non-traditional traction pattern on the outsole, a heel counter, and a rising ankle peak.  The overall effect strongly resembles the existing Zoom Hyperdunk silhouette.  These fundamental changes in structure are sure to put the Nike Zoom KD V over the $100.00 line, up from the KD IV’s current pricing at $95.00 USD.
