Ever since the Kobe 4, the Kobe Bryant basketball shoe line continued with its low cut style. The Nike Kobe 8 did not disappoint as it definitely improved from the Kobe 7. The low cut of the shoe fits the playing style of guards and forwards. Players such as Nick Young, Steve Nash, J.R. Smith, and DeMar DeRozan are a few to have laced these kicks up on the NBA hardwood. In 2013, Nike released a second Christmas colorway but this time with a Shedding Snake Skin overlay.

History
Looking back we now know Kobe Bryant ruptured his Achilles and fractured the lateral tibial plateau in his left knee in the Nike Kobe 8. Besides this unfortunately event, the Kobe 8 was popular for its looks and fit. In a U.S. men’s size 9, the Kobe 8 System created Kobe’s lowest and lightest performance basketball shoe at just 9.6 ounces.
Creative Director Eric Avar, his team and Kobe collaborated to come up with the Kobe 8. Featuring a Lunarlon cushioning, the midsole insert was lightweight and allowed for great comfort. The upper consists of ultra light engineered mesh to allow flexibility and breathability.
Kobe had requested the shoe to stay low to the ground as it would allow him to maneuver quickly with more control. The rubber outsole combines the herringbone pattern with a snake scale-inspired traction pattern. The first pair of Kobe 8 released was the Black / Sulfur colorway on December 20,2012.
