The Jordan XX8 released last year with a revolutionary shrouded outer layer in multiple limited release colorways and several player edition models (which rarely hit the shelves). The XX8 was somewhat controversial in a never-before-seen high top, zipper shroud, but with such limited releases and a luke-warm reception by the sneaker community, we were bound to see a simpler version from Jordan Brand similar to the past SE release of the Jordan 27. With excellent performance ratings of the XX8 from the pros and basketball sneaker reviewers, it is prime time for a lighter version of the XX8. Enter the Jordan XX8 SE.
On February 1st, Jordan Brand will release three new colorways of the Jordan XX8 SE in a general release via multiple Jordan retailers. In the previous months, we have seen quickstrike releases of the Jordan XX8 SE in camo colorways and player edition models through limited retail channels. Performance reviews of the XX8 SE were very strong from the start. It quickly built a reputation as a “no break-in time” shoe. They are constructed with a lightweight, flexible engineered mesh with several stretch fabric forefoot gaps in the upper, carbon fiber heel counter and carbon fiber forefoot stabilizer, an inherited mid-sole design from the original XX8 (a technology which can also be found in the Melo M10). A Bel Air version and a Russell Westbrook OKC version were the highlights of the previous camo releases. Last year’s XX8 SE releases left some Jordan fans on hold for simpler colorways.
February 1st, the XX8 SE releases will answer that call. The new XX8 SE line-up includes 3 versions: Black/White/Anthracite/Gym Red, Dark Grey/White/Black/Cool Grey, Dark Powder Blue/White/Cool Grey/Black.
Which one of these will be a classic? The Black/White/Antracite/Gym Red version follows a well known BRED colorway made famous by the Bulls colors and the hint at one of the most popular and ground-breaking sneakers of all time, the Jordan 4 BRED. Will this be the next sought after Jordan shoe to bring all the retro fans back into the new? The possibility, according to Jordan enthusiasts, is definitely there. With no sign of a Jordan 29 yet, the Jordan XX8 SE general release is Jordan Brand’s current front runner for 2014. We expect more availability than previous XX8 SE releases and we also expect additional colorways. Check Kicksologists often for more previews in the latest colorways of the Jordan XX8 SE.
