It is still hard to believe that the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather is finally going down next Saturday, May 2nd. I remember wanting this fight for the past five years so it is great to see it finally happening. Foot Locker released a commercial taking a straight jab at Floyd five months ago that pretty much called him out. Since then, a plethora of rumors arose and now we have another commercial with Pacquiao rocking a pair of the recent Nike Kobe X “Team” Elites.
Over the past couple months, boxers such John Molina Jr. and Lamont Peterson have both wore the Nike Kobe 9 Elites for their matches. Pretty crazy to think a shoe meant for the court is now being used for real life matches by professional boxers. This isn’t a sparring match or for training, these boxers are using them for the official boxing fights. Now think about that for a second…
Initially, Kobe Bryant was inspired by Manny Pacquiao’s boxing boots that got him to rethink the process of designing his sneakers for the court. This happened about 3-4 years ago (prior to the creation of the Kobe 9). Who would have thought that this “idea” would come full circle one day. I sure didn’t, but it goes to show the brilliance of design and execution from Nike Basketball. They continue to challenge themselves in all aspects.

With all that said, could Manny Pacquiao lace up a pair of Elite Kobe X’s on the biggest fight of his career? That decision could elevate the amount of exposure that Kobe Bryant and Nike would get. All this is based on the fact that a basketball shoe could be the choice by one of the fighters. Personally, I think it would be epic. It would instantly have people buy the Kobe X Elite at their Foot Lockers and other retailers. We’ll just have to wait and see.
