In a recent survey taken by general managers throughout the NBA, the overwhelming consensus was that Kevin Durant will be this upcoming season’s MVP. Already being the youngest ever scoring champion and recent gold medal winner at the FIBA tournament, KD is undoubtedly slated to have a monster year. However, while we all know that he can score from anywhere on the court, he will now be judged based upon how far he can take the Oklahoma City Thunder compared to last season when they pushed the Lakers back through six hard games.
It’s no secret by now that Kobe Bryant essentially dominates Nike’s basketball footwear department with the Nike Zoom Kobe V given their dedication to marketing his kicks and how much revenue they receive via sales. Being that it’s MLB playoff season, let’s put it in baseball terms. Kobe is Nike’s premium ace – a Doc Halladay or Tim Lincecum if you will. LeBron James is the second primary pitcher in the rotation with Durant rounding out the postseason staff at third. But, the question now is, will the release of the Nike Zoom KD III catapult him ahead of James? After all, the Air Max technology used with LBJ’s seventh signature shoe was not a big hit with weekend warriors and with these kicks costing only $88, it’s hard to see how they wouldn’t make a serious push.
The Black/White/Photo Blue colorway we see here is not hard on the eyes at all either. The black upper is nicely augmented by photo blue accents by way of the slight flywire panel and Swoosh border. The Swoosh itself is white as is the “kd” logo that rests on the elongated tongue with the “d” punched out. As you can see, the toebox is smoothed out, which gives the upper an overall sleeker feel to it. If you look on the medial side shot as well, you can see that Nike has added a touch of photo blue patent leather to this sneaker, giving the shoe another tasteful element that will delight fans. With a herringbone traction pattern finishing things off, the Nike Zoom KD III looks just as primed as Durantula to run alongside the big boys on the court and in the sneaker game.
Are you ready to see Kevin as the NBA’s new MVP? We won’t know that until next May, but these KD III’s will drop in December!
