Coincidentally enough, Blake Bevin is also driven by Parkinson’s Disease. According to her Kickstarter page, she was inspired by her grandmother’s bout with the illness and looked to the power laces seen in Back to the Future Part II as a means of making a simple task like putting on your shoes, much easier for people who struggle daily with disabilities. Beyond just being an insanely cool innovation, power laces really do have an incredibly practical use and we’re closer to having the technology available than you think.
The progress that Bevin made even before obtaining her Kickstarter funding was amazing to say the least, as seen in the video clips here. While it’s been a while since any recent updates have been put out online regarding her progress, we can only hope that her mission to help make the lives of people with physical handicaps is ongoing and getting closer to success. From a technological standpoint, it’s truly amazing what we as human beings are capable of given our capacity for intelligence. Bevin was even featured on ABC news!
